6.4 Layout and Building of EAF Steelmaking Shop

6.4.1 The general arrangement of EAF shop shall be in accordance with the following provisions:

1 The main shop building of EAF shop should be composed of paratactic multiple bays,which are furnace bay,charging bay and refining and(or)ladle transfer bay in turn.The furnace bay and charging bay may be perpendicular to the refining bay and the downstream bays,or the furnace and refining unit may be located in the same bay and the bay is adjacent and parallel to the casting bay of casting shop.

2 For an EAF shop with<50t furnace,it is allowed that charging bay is not provided,but simplified charging facility may be equipped at furnace.

6.4.2 The parameters of main shop building for EAF shop shall be determined according to the following provisions:

1 Furnace bay:The span shall be 21m-30m and the clearance between the outer wall of transformer room and the column of opposite shop building shall ensure passage of scrap bucket and lifted furnace shell.The rail top level of crane shall be determined considering the normal electrode exchange operation of furnace.For a furnace with doghouse,the clearance between the bottom edge of protection structure at bottom of crane beam and the upper section of doghouse below the beam shall not be less than 0.5m.The column distance of shop building where furnace is located should be 18m-36m and shall be determined according to the volume and outline dimension of furnace.

2 Charging bay:The span shall be 9m-18m and shall be determined according to the arrangement of equipment and building(structure)for charging system and refining system.The height of the bay shall be determined according to elevated arrangement of equipment.If the bucket is bottom opening type and lifted with crane,the rail top level shall be determined according to the safety height that can ensure the bottomopen bucket goes across the railing of platform at top of bin.

3 Refining and(or)ladle transfer bay:The span shall be 21m-30m and shall be determined according to the general process layout.The rail top level of crane shall be determined depending on the height of refining equipment and ladle turret and also the clearance from the upmost point of turret+ladle including ladle lid manipulator to the bottom edge of protection structure at bottom of crane beam shall not be less than 0.5m.

4 Smelting and casting bay(arranged in the same bay):The span shall be 21m-36m.The rail top level of crane shall meet the height requirements for normal operation of electrode replacement of EAF,lifting of transformers and lifting of a ladle into ladle turret.

6.4.3 The furnace shall be in elevated arrangement and electric ladle car shall be provided for tapping.The height from horizontal line of furnace door sill to top of operation platform should be 500mm-700mm.In determination on the level of operation platform and opening of platform around furnace,the dynamic relation between the furnace movements during tapping and slag removal and the adjacent equipment and building(structure)shall be verified.

6.4.4 Furnaces with different volumes should not be located in the same EAF shop.If a shop is equipped with more than one furnace with the same volume,the furnace and transformer should be arranged at the same side.

6.4.5 The crane maintenance facility shall be provided on roof truss of each bay of the EAF shop.

6.4.6 The EAF operation platform should be made of steel structure and concrete slabs.The uniformly distributed load designed shall be 20kN/m2-25kN/m2 and shall be 30kN/m2 for furnace repair on the furnace base.The uniformly distributed load on each platform of material bay shall be 5kN/m2-8kN/m2.

6.4.7 The medium pipes,pipe clips and holders in the electromagnetic induction area like the area nearby busbar opening of walls of transformer rooms for EAF and LF and water cooled cable shall be provided with electromagnetic induction protection.
