Chapter Ⅰ Nature of Graduate Education
【Content Summary】
The main content of this chapter consists of three parts. First, the basic concepts of graduate education, including“What is graduate education?”, the connotation, characteristics and mission of graduate education. Second, the development of graduate education, explaining the five development phases of graduate education in China since the reform and openingup. The five phases are Initial Exploration Phase, Restoration and Development Phase, Steady Development Phase, Rapid Development Phase, and Connotation Development Phase. The third is the relationship between graduate education and society, focusing on the action and reaction relationship between graduate education and politics, economy and culture.

近年来，伴随着现代社会的快速发展，社会对高层次人才需求的日益增加，研究生教育成为社会关注的焦点。改革开放40年以来，我国研究生教育得到长足发展，已经构建起了包括两个培养层次、两种学位类别、两类培养形式、十三大学科门类的研究生教育体系。本章以研究生教育的基本认识、基本理论为逻辑起点，通过厘清研究生教育的概念、特征、发展历程，辨析研究生教育与社会的关系，深度解读研究生教育的发展内涵。
