Chapter 2 Organizational Strategies and Communication Strategies

Abstract This chapter intends to develop theoretical links between organizational strategies and communication strategies through defining strategy and communication, and constructing a model of organizational strategies. The model integrates corporate strategies into business strategies. Thereafter, intra-organization and inter-organization communication strategies are developed and constructed into a model of organizational strategies and communication strategies, which adds new insights to current literature.

Organizational business strategies initiate the communication process. Cross cultural business communication is to carry out these business strategies in international business functional areas. If the communication is effective, which is to actualize the strategic goals properly, and is efficient, which is to realize these strategic goals at minimized economic and time cost, the communicators have to understand business strategies as their starting point. More often than not, effective actualization of business strategies can serve as a standard to evaluate the effectiveness of cross cultural business communication. Different corporate strategies requires different communication strategies to execute them. This chapter is to review relations between organizational strategies and communication strategies.
