Abstract:Reducing and eliminating poverty,as a common goal of human development,has long been a tall order for the international community.Since the adoption of reform and opening-up policy in 1978,the past over forty years have witnessed great strides of China’s poverty alleviation work amid many trials and tribulations.Hundreds of millions of rural residents have shaken off poverty and attained a moderately high standard of living.
China’s way of poverty alleviation through development is not only a significant part of China’s path and its national development pattern based on past experience,but also a successful model for further poverty relief of the entire human society.
Now China’s development-oriented poverty alleviation is entering a decisive stage.It is determined that no one shall live in poverty under the current standard by 2020,which means from 2016 to 2020,an average of 10 million people would be lifted out of poverty annually,a pledge solemnly made in the 13th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of China.
This report will systematically review the course of China’s development-oriented poverty alleviation,summarize its practices and experience,and examine the practice patterns of targeted poverty alleviation.Discussions and analyses of the effect of China’s poverty reduction efforts as well as its contributions to worldwide attempts are also included.
