3.1 Selection of Research Samples
Thai Rath[8]is the website operated by Thai Rath[9](Thairath)which is most popular and authoritative in Thailand and mainly publishes the news of Thai Rath. Thai Rath enjoys issue volume of nearly 1 million pieces in Thailand with the population of 67 million and covers all the areas of Thailand,falling within the most influential media platform in Thailand. Thai Rath holds an neutral attitude to news report and could make overall and objective analysis to events. Meanwhile it has the ability in persistent report and ensures prompt tracking to social news events. Thai Rath has the characteristics of being objective,plentiful and concentrated. Therefore,the reports on the website of Thai Rath is used as extraction point of samples in this text.
The articles on Chinese tourists from the website of Thai Rath are chosen in this research. There are total 191 news reports on Chinese tourists and 11 comment columns by searching key words Chinese tourists[10],Chinese tourist group[11]and “Chinese tourism”.
3.2 Pre-processing Rules for Samples
Among information obtained by searching key words on the website of Thai Rath,there is excessive information and samples are pre-processed and selected accordingly to obtain information relating to Chinese tourists’ image problems.
Samples are selected according to the following scope:1.Time. Time selection scope is from 2010 to Oct. 20,2016,as the time of earliest samples on the website of Thai Rath is started from 2010 and the time of other samples continues to Oct. 2016.2.Targeted group. Samples’target group refers to the group of Chinese tourists who go to Thailand for travel.
After pre-processing,there are 147 news report samples and 11 comment samples.
3.3 Samples After Selection
Analysis category is basic unit for divergences in contents.According to the purpose of this research,analysis category here includes 3 aspects:Chinese tourists’ behaviors,Chinese tourists’image and Thai and Chinese tourist market.
Chinese tourists’ behaviors are all the behaviors and actions of Chinese tourists in Thailand and it refers to main factor which effects Thai people to shape Chinese tourists’ image directly. Chinese tourists’behaviors mentioned in the news reports on the website of Thai Rath,are also Chinese tourists’ behaviors which Thai people feel and know actually and are general and typical. Chinese tourists’ behaviors have become the most important factor to shape Chinese tourists’ new image after continuous increase in the number of tourists.
Chinese tourists’ image,are direct expression of Chinese tourists’ image in the news of Thai Rath and Thai people’s perception and understanding to Chinese tourists are reflected.
The trend of Thai and Chinese tourist market. Tourism is national pillar industry in Thailand,while China has already become the biggest country of tourist source in Thailand. Therefore,Chinese tourists are important in Thai and Chinese tourist market. Meanwhile,the fluctuation in Thai and Chinese tourist market,also brings influence to Chinese tourists’ image in Thailand.
Among samples after selection,there are total 146 news reports,including 58 samples involving Chinese tourists’ behaviors,17 samples involving Chinese tourists’ image and 79 samples involving Thai and Chinese tourist market. There are total 10 comment reports,including one sample involving Chinese tourists’ behaviors,2 samples involving Chinese tourists’ image and 7 samples involving Thai and Chinese tourist market.
