4　Dosage in HSM

Dosage in moxibustion is composed of intensity, area and time. If the former two are constant, the dosage is determined by time. When applying HSM, the amount of time moxibustion is administered on each point varies according to the individual, disease and point. It is an individualized time period that is determined by the disappearance of the heat-sensitized sensation.

The time from the emergence of a heat-sensitized sensation to its disappearance can be from 10 minutes to several hours. If the patient receives the appropriate moxibustion dosage, the therapeutic effect improves significantly and the heat-sensitized acupoints turns into a tranquilized points.
