PREFACE

This book mainly refers to the discussion and summary of architectural design methods, which can provide effective and clear design patterns for students and architects who are now struggling with how to design. The book can take into account the differences of each student and improve the efficiency of teaching and project design, because the design method explained in this book is clear to understand. Generally speaking, the process of architecture teaching and design is based on the surrounding environment and human regional information to induce and deduce the pre-concept analysis and architectural design strategy. This linear design needs to consider many factors, which easily causes the pre-design process to be cumbersome and prolongs the design hours. The works selected in this book mainly use non-linear design and narrative design, through a phenomenon or object, etc. to find the formation of architectural form, then combine situation of the site to deepened design. The advantage of such a method is that can improve the design efficiency.

The content of this book is divided into ten chapters, that is, ten design methods. The design methods of similar types in the teaching process are organized into categories. Each method contains four student works, which are divided into five steps to explain. After ten methods in this book, the design steps with high frequency in the design process are introducing to help understand the role and significance of part of the design process in architectural design.

I would like to express my great gratitude to Mr Zhang Junzhuo who has contributed a lot of time and effort to this book. Thanks to Wang Yulei, Zhang Shaopeng, Li Yi and Zhu Bonan for their help and support during the preparation of this book.
