In 2020, GDP of Shaanxi Province reached 2.62 trillion yuan, an increase rate of 2.2%. Shaanxi has witnessed a growth rate of 14.7% in this industry in 2020, which is one of three major bases for research and production of power transmission and transformation equipment in China.

The automobile industry has become a new pillar industry in Shaanxi. Enterprises with Shaanxi Automobile Group and BYD Auto as the representatives continue to explore emerging markets, and the production of new energy vehicles is promising; methanol automobiles by Shaanxi Automobile have filled the domestic gap.

The national defense science and technology industry in Shaanxi enjoys distinctive advantages, powerful strength, and outstanding comprehensive superiority, with its professional technology holding the leading position in China. Based on the strength of the military industry, the three major industrial bases of aviation, aerospace, and weapons and seven major industrial parks, including new aviation smart city, ship technology, military electronics, general aviation, aviation equipment manufacturing, aviation maintenance services, and new materials for military and civilian use, have initially formed a development trend with distinctive industrial features, complete supporting conditions, and an impressive cluster effect. Notable results have been achieved in the construction of Shaanxi military-civilian integration bases such as Xi'an Aviation Industrial Base, Xi'an Aerospace Industrial Base, and Xi'an Weapon Industrial Base.

In 2020, the number of high-tech enterprises in Shaanxi exceeded 6,100, a year-on-year increase of 41.8%, and the added value of high-tech manufacturing increased by 16.1%. The production capacity of major projects of the electronic information industry was fully released, with Samsung realizing full-load production and the ZTE smart terminal production project upgraded with smart technologies. As the leading industries of new energy industry in Shaanxi Province, LONGi Green Energy Technology, LONGi Leye Photovoltaic Technology, CRRC Yongji Electric, and other wind and solar power generation equipment manufacturers have maintained a growth rate of more than 20% in output value.

2.Overall Growth of Strategic Emerging Industries

In 2020, the added value of strategic emerging industries in Shaanxi Province increased by 5.8% on a year-on-year base, accounting for 11.7% of Shaanxi's GDP, a one percentage point increase to that of the same period last year. Among them, the new generation of the information technology industry in Shaanxi Province achieved a growth rate of 13% in added value. High-tech industrial clusters were enhanced, including the semiconductor industry, drone industry, and smart terminal industry represented by Samsung and Micron. At the same time, new infrastructure projects such as 5G network and data centers have driven investment in the information transmission industry to increase by 56.2%, and a new pattern for the development of the big data industry has taken shape.

The added value of the new energy industry increased by 9.8% over the past year, and the growth rate was 2.1 percentage points higher than that of the same period last year, which is 4 percentage points higher than that of the strategic emerging industries in Shaanxi. The strategic emerging industries in the service industry have seen stable growth, the added value of which has increased by 6.1% in 2020, making a significant contribution to the development of strategic emerging industries in Shaanxi Province.

COVID-19 has brought Shaanxi a boom of new online economy. Online business of all kinds thrived despite weak economic growth, stimulating distant working and online consumption, and bringing exciting opportunities to the digital economy and the Internet industry. In 2020, the added value of the digital creative industry in the province rose by 6.4%, which is 0.6% higher than that of the strategic emerging industries, driving the growth of the strategic emerging industries by 0.7%.
