［含义］把某人丢下不管

［趣释］【物事喻指】“高而干”（high and dry）的地方本意为没有水的地方或者岸上。大浪或潮水退后，把冲到岸上的小船丢在那里搁浅了。把船搁浅到岸上，当然是使船处于极困难的状态。于是，这种表达法用于人的场合，就产生了习语“把某人留在高而干的地方”（to leave sb. high and dry），喻指丢下某人不管，又使某人处于困难状态、使某人进退维谷的意味。美国作家西奥多·德莱塞（Theodore Dreiser）在其短篇小说集《女性群像》（A Gallery of Women）中就引用了这条成语。
