Summary

This chapter introduced stream processing and Apache Apex as a next-generation, data-in-motion processing platform. The case studies that were presented illustrate how Apex can be used to solve important business problems and implement solutions that deliver value and succeed in production. We looked at the application development model and various APIs that are available to develop Apex applications. Finally, the value proposition of Apex was covered.

The next chapter will cover the development process in detail. Supporting technical capabilities and architectural characteristics such as fault tolerance, performance, integration with other systems, and scalability will be covered in detail in subsequent chapters.
