Picking Colors with Confidence
Adding colors to maps is easy, but it's important to add them for the right reasons. When color is used appropriately on a map, the organization of the perceptual dimensions of color corresponds to the logical organization in the mapped data. Color is a complex subject, and, even more so than font choice, it can evoke strong psychological responses. While there isn't room to fit an entire course on color theory in this chapter, we'll look at the basic elements of color and how it impacts the map message, as well as differences in colors for print and digital publications. We'll also learn how to change color models and create custom colors in ArcGIS Pro.
In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:
- Defining color
- Working with color
- Moving beyond the basics
