The purpose of the enterprise, broken down into vision, mission, strategy, and initiatives, must be socialized across the business such that the agents, namely, people in the enterprise, are able to establish a connection between the work they are doing and the purpose of the company. Staff being aligned with an organization's purpose is a necessary condition to be able to effectively deliver value-driven outcomes. Besides autonomy and mastery, purpose is a key factor in intrinsically motivating people who are knowledge workers.
