Creating Your First Canvas PowerApp
In this chapter, we will look at how to create our first PowerApp by creating a canvas app. Canvas apps are generally what people think of when they think of PowerApps and are where most app development takes place. Canvas apps have the smallest learning curve in terms of grasping the basics, so this is the ideal place to start your PowerApps journey.
We will also look into the basic settings of our app so that you can start changing its settings and ensure you have the right app for the type of functionality that you want to present. By doing this, you will also be able to ensure that your app has the right identity for your users so that it can be identifiable and therefore used.
In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:
- Creating a mobile app
- Creating a tablet app
- Changing the app settings
- Lab 1
You will also gain insight into how you can find out what is coming to PowerApps next and actually start testing some of the new components as they get released through the Microsoft application life cycle.
As we progress through this book, we will build an app that will allow us to practice some useful techniques and implement elements of the functionality that will be discussed in each chapter. Each chapter will contain a lab that will give you step by step instructions on how to create our asset management app. Copies of each app can be found in this book's GitHub repository (https://github.com/PacktPublishing/Learn-Microsoft-PowerApps).
