5.3 Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Piping
5.3.1 Piping layout shall not interfere with tube bundle or shell pulling, and channel head or shell cover removal, and adequate space shall be provided to facilitate operation and maintenance.
5.3.2 Valve, instrument and control valve manifold in the piping around heat exchanger shall be arranged near operation access.
5.3.3 If heat exchangers are arranged side by side, their cooling fluids and valves should be arranged in the same way.The width of operation accesses on both sides of heat exchanger shall not be less than 0.8m.
5.3.4 If davit is provided at the channel head or shell cover of heat exchanger, piping layout shall be designed to be away from davit moving space.
5.3.5 Piping should not be arranged just above the axis of heat exchanger.
5.3.6 Elevation of the piping around heat exchanger shall coordinate with that of the piping on piperacks or the piping connected to adjacent equipment.
5.3.7 Where several two-phase flow heat exchangers are arranged in parallel, their inlet piping shall be symmetrical if no control valves are installed.
5.3.8 Where bypass is available for the piping in condensable fluid service or solid-bearing fluid service which is connected to heat exchanger, the shutoff valves in bypass shall be installed horizontally to reduce liquid accumulation.
