About the Authors

Gregory A. Garrett is an international educator, consultant, best-selling and award-winning author, dynamic speaker, highly decorated U.S. military officer, and respected industry leader. He has successfully led the contract management and program management of more than $30 billion of complex high-technology projects worldwide. His teaching and consulting activities in contract management, capture management, project management, supply chain management, and leadership have reached more than 25,000 people in over 40 countries. He has authored 9 books and more than 60 published articles. He is also the president and CEO of Garrett Consulting Services.

He has won numerous national and international business awards, including the Project Management Institute (PMI) Eric Jenett Project Management Excellence Award; the PMI David I. Cleland Project Management Literature Award; the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) National Achievement Award; the NCMA National Education Award in Contract Management; the NCMA Charles J. Delaney Memorial Award—Contract Management Literature Award; and the NCMA Fellow Award.

Rene G. Rendon is on the faculty of the United States Naval Postgraduate School, where he teaches acquisition and contract management courses in the MBA and master of science programs. In addition to teaching at the Naval Postgraduate School, Rene has conducted research for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics) and the U.S. Navy, and has taught acquisition management courses to international military officers and civilian officials. Prior to his appointment at the Naval Postgraduate School, he served for more than 22 years as an acquisition contracting officer in the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served as a contracting officer for such programs as the Peacekeeper ICBM, the F-22 Advanced Tactical Fighter, the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS), and the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV).

He has won numerous Air Force and national awards, including the Air Force Outstanding Officer in Contracting Award; the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) National Education Award in Contract Management; the NCMA Outstanding Fellow Award; the NCMA Charles J. Delaney Memorial Award—Contract Management Literature Award; and the NCMA Fellow’s Award. Dr. Rendon is coauthor of Contract Management Organizational Assessment Tools and has published articles in Contract Management, Journal of Contract Management, Program Manager, Project Management Journal, and PM Network.
