The Cure

Patsy was in the hospital. Her friend Mary went to see her. Mary found her lying in bed,wrappedwrap v.包;裹 in bandagesbandage n.绷带.

“Patsy! ” Mary said. “What happened to you? ”

“When I woke up this morning, ” Patsy said, “I had a headache.”

“A headache? ”

“Yes. So I went to see the doctor.”

“You look as if you've broken every bone in your body! ” Mary said.

“I know, and I have, well almost.”

“How did it happen? ”

“Well, I told my doctor about my headache, and he said I needed more exercise, so I went for a walk in the park.”

“The park isn't dangerous, ” Mary said. “It's beautiful there.”

“Well,yes,but as I was looking up at a bird in a tree, I trippedtrip v.绊倒 and fell down. I twistedtwist v.扭;拧;盘绕 my ankleankle n.踝关节;踝节部 and couldn't walk. Someone called an ambulanceambulance n.救护车.”

“But you don't need all those bandages for a twisted ankle, ”Mary said.

“Oh, I know that, ” Patsy said. “The problem was that the ambulance men put me on a stretcherstretcher n.担架. Then as they were lifting me into the ambulance, I fell off the stretcher and broke my leg.”

“But why do you have bandages around your arm? ” Mary asked.

“Well, when I got to the hospital, the doctor gave me some medicine to stop the pain in my leg and I fell asleep.Unfortunatelyunfortunately adv.不幸的;遗憾的,he made a mistake with my name.”

“And another doctor operatedoperate v.动手术 on your arm! ”Mary said.

“That's right, ”Patsy said.“But I shouldn't complaincomplain v.抱怨. My doctor was right. The walk in the park was good for me: My headache is completely gone now.”
