Personal life

Page was born in Michigan. His father was a computer science professor at Michigan State University, his mother was an instructor in computer programming at Michigan State University. Some years later, their son—Larry also holds a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from the University of Michigan with honors. While at the University of Michigan, Page created an inkjet（喷墨的）printer made of Lego bricks, seeing the possibility to print large posters cheaply using inkjet cartridges. Page reverse-engineered the cartridge（墨盒）and built all the electronics and mechanics to drive it.

His attraction to computers started when he was 6 years old when he got to “play with the stuff lying around”. He became the first kid in his elementary school to turn in an assignment（任务）from a word processor.

Career

Soliciting funds from faculty members, family and friends, Brin and Page scraped together（东拼西凑）enough to buy some servers and rent that famous garage in Menlo Park. Then Sun Microsystems co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wrote a $100,000 check to “Google, Inc.” In 1998, Brin and Page founded Google, Inc. In their first years in business, Brin served as president, while Page was the chief executive officer until they hired Eric Schmidt as Chairman and CEO of Google in 2001. After Page took over as Google's CEO for the second time in 2011, Google's products and applications also underwent（遭遇）an aesthetic（审美的）overhaul during this period.

I think it is often easier to make progress on mega-ambitious dreams. I know that sounds completely nuts. But, since no one else is crazy enough to do it, you'll have little competition. In fact, there are so few people this crazy that I feel like I know them all by first name. They all travel as if they are pack dogs and stick to each other like glue. The best people want to work on the big challenges. That is what happened with Google. Our mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible（易接近的）and useful. How can that not get you excited?

Overall, I know it seems like the world is crumbling out there, but it is actually a great time in your life to get a little crazy, follow your curiosity, and be ambitious about it. Don't give up on your dream. The world needs you all!

On a day like today, you might feel exhilarated（振奋的）—like you've just been shot out of a cannon at the circus—and even invincible（无敌的）. Don't ever forget that incredible feeling. But also, always remember that the moments we have with friends and family, the chances we have to do things that might make a big difference in the world, or even to make a small difference to the ones we love—all those wonderful chances that life gives us, life also takes away.
